Sensors for the Electronics Industry

Electronics assembly is a small-target, high-speed problem. Components are measured in millimetres, boards move quickly between stations, and the sensing has to resolve features that a general-purpose sensor would miss entirely.

Detecting small targets

• Beam spot size sets the limit. When the feature is smaller than the emitter's spot, the switching edge becomes indistinct. A laser fork sensor concentrates the beam into a small, sharply defined spot and gives a clean edge on fine features.
• Fork geometry removes alignment drift — the emitter and receiver are fixed in one housing, so vibration cannot walk them apart.
• Fast response matters as line speed rises; a slow sensor smears the trigger point and costs placement accuracy.

• PCB handling and conveyors — board presence, edge detection and queue control.
• Component feeders — tape and reel indexing, perforation counting via fork sensors.
• Placement and insertion — head position confirmation and part-present checks.
• Test and inspection stations — fixture position and board seating.

Board-level switching
