Magnetic Sensors

Reed, Hall-effect and variable-reluctance pickups for cylinder position, speed and RPM measurement.

Magnetic sensors respond to a magnetic field rather than to metal. That gives them one decisive advantage: they sense through non-magnetic walls, so the magnet can sit inside a sealed cylinder, tank or enclosure while the sensor stays outside with nothing penetrating the barrier.

The range covers reed switches in cylindrical and rectangular housings, Hall effect sensors that work down to zero speed, and variable-reluctance magnetic pickups for shaft speed and RPM.

Variants in this range

Magnetic Pickup Sensor (M18) — manufactured in Mumbai by Wadia Electronics

Magnetic Pickup Sensor (M18)

A magnetic pickup generates its own signal. As the teeth of a gear or a toothed wheel pass the sensor face, they disturb the field of an internal permanent magnet…

Magnetic Hall Effect Sensor — manufactured in Mumbai by Wadia Electronics

Magnetic Hall Effect Sensor

A Hall effect sensor detects the presence of a magnetic field rather than a change in it — which means, unlike a magnetic pickup, it works right down to zero speed.…

Ordering options

Every product in this category can be adjusted to your application. Specify any of the following at enquiry and we will quote against it:

  • Output configuration — PNP or NPN, normally open or normally closed.
  • Cable length — 2 m standard, longer lengths on request.
  • Termination — flying lead or M12 plug-in connector.
  • Housing — chrome-plated brass, stainless steel, or rectangular block.
  • Mounting — shielded (flush) or unshielded (non-flush).
  • Supply voltage — 10–30 V DC or 230 V AC where applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to supply the magnet separately?

Yes, unless the application already has one — a pneumatic cylinder with a magnetic piston, or a magnetic float in a level assembly. Tell us the sensing gap and we will recommend a suitable magnet.

Reed switch or Hall effect?

A reed switch is a mechanical contact — simple and needs no standby current, but has a finite mechanical life. A Hall sensor is solid state, switches faster and lasts indefinitely, but draws a small standby current. For high switching rates choose Hall effect.

Will a magnetic sensor work through a stainless steel wall?

Through non-magnetic austenitic stainless such as 304 or 316, yes. Through magnetic stainless grades or mild steel, no — the wall shields the field.

Need the right sensor for your machine?

Send us your application — target material, sensing distance, supply voltage and housing constraint. We will recommend a part, quote it, and ship from Mumbai.
