Magnetic Hall Effect Sensor

Hall effect magnetic sensor, PNP normally open, 30 V DC, for proximity, speed and position measurement. Works down to zero speed. Made in Mumbai.

Magnetic Hall Effect Sensor manufactured by Wadia Electronics & Engineering, Mumbai

A Hall effect sensor detects the presence of a magnetic field rather than a change in it — which means, unlike a magnetic pickup, it works right down to zero speed. A stationary magnet in front of the face holds the output on indefinitely.

Hall effect versus magnetic pickup

A variable-reluctance pickup generates a voltage only while flux is changing, so its output falls away as speed drops and disappears at standstill. A Hall element instead produces a voltage proportional to the field itself, and onboard electronics square that into a clean digital output.

Two practical consequences follow: the signal amplitude does not vary with speed, and position can be held and read while the machine is stopped. For any application involving slow rotation, indexing, or knowing the position at rest, Hall effect is the correct choice.

Key features

  • PNP sourcing output — provides a positive signal when actuated.
  • Normally open — output stays off until a magnetic field is detected.
  • Works at zero speed, unlike a variable-reluctance pickup.
  • Clean digital output — no signal conditioning or amplifier required.
  • Constant output amplitude regardless of target speed.
  • 30 V DC rating for standard industrial control systems.

How to order

Tell us the sensing gap, the target material, your supply voltage and the output type your controller needs. If you are replacing an existing sensor, a photograph of the body markings is usually enough for us to identify an equivalent. We will confirm the specification and quote — normally the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Hall effect or reed switch — which should I use?

A reed switch is a mechanical contact: simple, needs no supply current to hold state, but has a finite mechanical life and can bounce. A Hall sensor is solid state with no moving parts, switches faster and cleanly, and lasts indefinitely, but draws a small standby current. For high switching rates or very long life, choose Hall effect.

Does the magnet polarity matter?

For most Hall sensors, yes — they respond to one pole. If the output does not switch, try reversing the magnet before assuming a fault.
