The rectangular reed sensor offers the same magnetically actuated switching as the cylindrical version in a flat block housing — easier to bolt to a flat surface, and easier to position repeatably when a unit is replaced.
Flat-mount magnetic sensing
Where a threaded barrel needs a drilled hole and lock-nuts, a rectangular body screws straight onto a bracket, a guard or a frame member. The broader sensing face also gives more tolerance to magnet alignment, which helps on doors and sliding guards where the moving part never returns to exactly the same place twice.
