A slot-type inductive sensor detects metal passing through a fixed 10 mm gap. Because the target must travel through a defined opening, the trigger point is mechanically repeatable — which makes it the natural choice for counting and edge detection where a barrel sensor would drift.
Why a slot instead of a barrel
With a cylindrical sensor, sensing distance varies with alignment, target material and temperature, and small parts can slip past the field. A slot sensor constrains the geometry: the field is concentrated across the gap, so any metal passing through triggers a clean, consistent edge regardless of how it is presented.
That repeatability is what makes slot sensors reliable at high count rates on fast-moving product.
Key features
- 10 mm slot width — accepts thin metal parts, tabs, flags and perforated discs.
- High precision on small objects that a barrel sensor would miss.
- IP68 sealed for dusty and wet production areas.
- Low power draw — under 10 mA, so many units can share one supply.
- Fixed mechanical reference — no sensing-distance adjustment to drift out of calibration.

How to order
Tell us the sensing gap, the target material, your supply voltage and the output type your controller needs. If you are replacing an existing sensor, a photograph of the body markings is usually enough for us to identify an equivalent. We will confirm the specification and quote — normally the same day.

Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum thickness of part that fits?
The standard slot is 10 mm wide, so any target thinner than that will pass through. Allow clearance for vibration and product wander — in practice, keep the part at 8 mm or less for reliable running.
Can a slot sensor detect non-metal parts?
No. This is an inductive slot sensor and responds only to metal. For labels, paper, plastic or glass in a slot format, use our fork photoelectric sensor or laser fork sensor instead.
Need a quote for the Slot Type Proximity Sensor?
Send us your application — target material, sensing distance, supply voltage and housing constraint. We will recommend a part, quote it, and ship from Mumbai.
